After high school and pro tennis, I bought a beach
wagon on Daytona Beach. I
operated the beach wagon for about 10 years with my husband, Byron
McPherson. I divorced Byron, gave him the beach wagon, and went to
college. I graduated with a Master's degree in Accounting from the University of Florida in
1990. I moved to Greensboro, NC at the
end of 1990 and have been here ever since. I hated public accounting and
became a pilot. I flew for a regional airline, Atlantic Southeast
Airlines (a Delta Connection), based in Atlanta, GA, for a
couple years. In 1998, I became a designated pilot examiner, which
means I give flight tests to pilots who are trying to obtain their private
pilot certificates, or other advanced ratings. In 2001, I married the man
who taught me to fly, Pat Owens. We have a home in Greensboro, NC, and we
also have a home in Biloxi, MS.
(My husband likes to play poker, and there are a lot of casinos in Biloxi.)
In 2005, our Biloxi home got
flooded by hurricane Katrina, so we had to tear out all the sheet
rock down to the studs and rebuild the entire inside of the house. My
husband, Pat, was also a designated pilot examiner, and he retired in
2006.
I run 3 miles a day,
and have not missed one single day of running in over 18 years. I also
lift weights. Guess that's it in a nutshell.
