Gator
Growl-Homecoming
Hello from
Gainesville on the Sunday after Tennessee, ugly, but still a win. Wanted to
update you on plans for Gator Growl and Homecoming after talking to Angela and
Mike Stephens. Mike will attempt to purchase tickets for Gator Growl which will
include a party in the Championship Suite at the Stadium, and the event. I've
added a link below with info on the performers. He needs to know ASAP, like 48
hours, to call and see if he can get them, and he needs to know how many of us
are interested. The price is the same as Gator Growl, alone. Let me know so I
can send him a number, by Monday PM.
Tailgating for Homecoming
will also be a party for Angela and her 50th Birthday. She knows some of us
will be there but doesn't know how many. This past weekend, some fellow
tailgators had their party catered, no cooking for them. They had chicken,
pork, ribs, potatoes, beans, bread, etc., cooked and delivered for $8.00 per
person. We all agreed this is the way to go for homecoming so we don't have to
worry about cooking any food. Once again, we'll need to know how many are
coming. For those of you that don't know, Tailgate Location is on Gale
Lemerand, Commuter lot 10, next to the high rise parking garage. If you get
there early enough, you can park on the lower 2 levels of the garage, no
charge. Let me or Mike know if you want to join us. Don't e-mail Angela!
Last, if you want
a hotel room, tell me know. I can book Days Inn University for $135, Days Inn
I75 $110. Deb and I will be slumbering her daughters aptartment just off Archer
and 34th. Tickets for the game? Should be easier to find than Tenessee, I'll
ask around.
Oh Yeh! If your
not on Facebook, do it now. You'll see how many classmates are on line and what
they are doing. And photos of us Tailgating.
See Ya
Tom

Bloggy here with a personal update of the happenings
around old greenie! That’s me! ;>)
Well let’s see now! Yes we are all turning 50 this
year, nice photo Tom, some last year, some next, but very very soon it
will hit us all and just as when we were recovering from our reunion blitz,
Advil or some other stronger concoction will come in mighty handy! I am happy I
still have my teeth, and health! I would die without being able to eat corn on
the cob!
My daughter Devin will graduate from The Creek in
two weeks! The class of ’09, just 32 little ole years after her Daddio! Their
caps and gowns are black this year, for the girls anyway! This week is the Prom
and there is much planning going on at our house. Heck if I spent back in ‘77
what we are spending this year for her, I would have never gotten to U of F. And
oh yea, She’s going to be a Gator, just like mom and dad! Hope she lasts longer
than we did at party central! Prom… well now!
My daughter Anna will be a junior and she’ll be in
her third year as a varsity basketball player.
Oh and by the way, last summer not only did the
school tear out all the trees we planted up front for a parking lot, they
replaced every locker in school with brand new one’s! I wish I would have
known, I bet some of you would have paid cash money for some. I visited mine
every time I walked into see a basketball game.
Mr. webmaster himself is giving our offices a major
face lift, the first it’s had in 28 years, my how the years add up. They are
doing a great job, so if you need some re-modeling done Lloyds TYL Construction
is first class. Thanks Lloyd!
Hired Lisa McDowell Cummins another classmate as my
scheduler a few weeks back and she is doing a bang up job! The Class of 77’
sent some great people out into the world.
Summer’s here and Disappearing Island is as nice as
ever so if any of you want to join us some Saturday or Sunday after church just
give ole Bloggy a call. Mohitos at noon…
For those of you, or should I say us, who will have
to work a few more years thanks to Wall Street, don’t ever give up. That sun
still rises over the beach every day just like back in the day when there were
no high-rises, it just takes a few more minutes before we can see it that’s
all. And if we can’t wake up, because of our age, well there’s always noon!
I wish all of you who are feeling down and out or
ill, my prayers for healing; I think of the many faces and voices from school
frequently, and I miss you all, well maybe not all of you, just kidding! I see
a lot of you in passing and some of you sat with my wife and I at the Honors
Dessert Extravaganza at the ICI Center last week, as we all said at the same
time, I can’t believe we are here! In my profoundness I think that when we pass
our souls travel to the places where we were most happy, and I know some of us
will pass through 1977 again in spite of our senior song! But hey, that’s not
for another 50 years, we’re still youngsters and I can still water ski with the
best of them, Stop laughing Lloyd!!!!!
You all take care, have a great summer!

In
If I can offer
what might be a small correction. . .
You said "You
remember the best barbecue was at Buck's Barn on Ridgewood, the best hot
dogs and onion rings at Sherry's on Volusia, the best doughnuts
at Cherry's in Westgate Shopping Center, the best hamburgers at
Stansfield's on Ridgewood, the best ice cream at Howard's on Volusia --
although some might argue for Flamingo."
While in later
years there might have been a Stansfield's on Ridgewood, the original was
(beachside) on Broadway just west of Grandview, slightly east and north of the
water tower. I know this because my father purchased it from Bill Stansfield
(the former stock car racer) in 1953 and operated it until 1955. In fact, my
first job ever was as a "soda jerk" there, Friday nights and all day
Saturdays (for which my dad paid me with a roll --$2 worth-- of nickels).
I attended
Grandview Elementary in the sixth grade, then Seabreeze Jr/Sr High in seventh
(when the two were schools were one, and long before a newer high school was
built further north). And, while the memory turns to lint these many years
later, I do remember fondly two people: a good pal named Bill Greenlee (who
lived on Grandview just around the corner from our home on Riverview), and
Patty Marshall, the prettiest girl I'd ever known and the object of my first
real teenage crush.
Thanks for your

everyone,
Just viewed the
Christmas card and loved it!!! I was really impressed that everyone
was such great dancers and still so limber and light on their toes. I'm
jealous I couldn't dance that good when I was in high school much less now. LOL
I hope everyone has a awesome new year overflowing with blessings and

Perspective
I am thankful for
the wife who says, "Its hot dogs tonight." because she is home with me,
not with someone else.
For the teenager
who is complaining about doing dishes, because that means she is at home and
not on the streets.
For the taxes that
I pay, because it means that I am employed.
For the mess to
clean after a party, because it means that I have been surrounded by friends.
For the clothes
that fit a little too snug, because it means I have enough to eat.
For my shadow that
watches me work, because it means I am out in the sunshine.
For a lawn that
needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing, because
it means that I have a home.
For all the
complaining I hear about the government, because it means that we have freedom
of speech.
For the parking spot
I find at the far end of the parking lot, because it means I am capable of walking and that I have
been blessed with transportation.
For my huge
heating bill, because it means that I am warm.
For the lady
behind me in church that sings off key, because it means that I can hear.
For the pile of
laundry and ironing, because it means I have clothes to wear.
For weariness and
aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means I have been capable of
working hard.
For the alarm that
goes off in the early morning hours, because it means that I am alive.
And finally.....
for too much e-mail, because it means I have friends who are thinking of me.

FLA vs LSU update
Spruce Creek
"Gator Club"
I wanted to update
everyone on the status of things. Our Spruce Creek classmate Angela
Huggins (Stephens) who is a big Gator fan has been going to Fla games for years
with her husband Mike. They know what to do, how to have fun and have a
group of friends that also bring their RV's to the game. Angela has graciously
invited us (she might regret it) to join her group for the LSU game. Several of
her friends will have TV's so we can watch the game if we can't get tickets.
But James ("The Scalper") Wang assures me that he can work some
miracles the day of the game and get some tickets for the market price, I will
let James respond on what he thinks tickets will go for. I will support
the idea that James is the master of scalping we have both gone to many
events at the last minute and still got in. There are several websites
that have tickets available but they can get expensive so it is up to you if
you want to risk waiting till the day of the game but remember we can always watch
it by the RV's. See Angela's e-mail to me below regarding her group and other
ideas. Angela has suggested that we bring our own coolers (great idea since
I know how much you all can drink) and chairs and we will also have some
responsibilities for food for Angela's group.
Tom Wilson has
already reserved some rooms so those of you that need a place to stay, please
get in touch with him so we can all stay at the same hotel. The options on
hotels are very limited for this game so don't snooze.
Hopefully we will
be starting a new tradition to get together periodically at the Florida games.
We all had such a great time together at the 30th reunion so let’s keep the
momentum going.
The plan is to
arrive Friday afternoon 10/10 and leave Sunday 10/12.
Here is a list of
people that are interested in attending so far:
James Wang and
friend from work -needs tickets
Rosie Wang
Mark & Anne
McCoy -needs tickets
Joe Warren &
Denise
Chris & Ashley
Koontz
Tom & Deb
Wilson- needs tickets, also have a daughter at Fla
Rick & Betty
Grimshaw - needs tickets, also have kids at Fla

Hopefully everyone
can make it. Please respond to this e-mail to let us know if you are going. We
obviously need a lot of tickets so try and network with any of your friends
that might have access to tickets.
Thanks. Go Gators.

If you hadn’t heard the news, the first week of June
was a tough one for our Class of 1977.
Jeff Scott passed away on June 1st and
then Coach Piggotte passed away on June 4th.
I’ve added Jeff to our Dedication
Page and I placed his obituary notice and some pictures from the memorial
service on his Hawk Profile
Page.
Here is Coach Piggotte’s obituary notice:
Coach
Piggotte, 81, South Daytona, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008. Memorial
service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at the Port Orange
Presbyterian Church, 4662 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange, with Pastor
Calvin Gittner officiating. Coach Piggotte was born August 26, 1926, to Mary
Belle and Joe Piggotte in McKenzie, Ala. He graduated Greenville High School in
Greenville, Ala., then joined the Navy to serve in the South Pacific during
World War II. After the war, he attended Livingston State College and Peabody
College, earning a Master's Degree in Education. He coached football,
basketball and baseball in Wildwood, Fla., and led his team to the 1957 state
championship. In 1957 he became the basketball coach at Mainland High School
and later coached at Spruce Creek High School. In his 33 years coaching, his
teams won many titles and never had a losing season. In 1998 he was inducted
into the Florida Coaches' Hall of Fame. After retiring from the school system
he became involved in local politics, serving on the South Daytona City Council
for 2 years, then as Mayor from 1986 to 2005. His leadership led to many
beautification projects, the community center and the Florida League of Cities
E. Harris Drew Award. He is preceded in death by his parents; his two sisters,
Virginia Rohr, Port Orange, and Vivian Brown, Montgomery, Ala. He is survived
by his loving wife of 60 years, Annye Piggotte, South Daytona; daughter,
Julianne (Noah McKinnon); son, Joe; and two beloved grandchildren, Trey and
Catherine. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of
Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange FL 32129. Condolences may be
shared with the family at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements are under
the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange.
This is just a reminder that we are all going to
pass this way someday, and so are all of our loved ones.
The Good Lord is only giving us just one day at a
time… and there are no guarantees about tomorrow.
Be sure to tell those that are special to you how
much you love them… and… most importantly… make sure you are ready to meet God
on judgment day.

Subject: A funny think happened in line
at SAMS Club yesterday.
All,
I was on line at Sam’s Club yesterday and I used to
think that having a hawk was a way to engage in a lot of unsolicited
conversation, however just put something like a large flat panel TV on a Sam’s
flat cart and it’s like walking through a living breathing Consumer Reports
magazine!
Well long story short, about 8 conversations into
the surreal, I was in the checkout line and an elderly gentleman to my
left said, “Getting ready for the big game are you?”, to which I replied, “Yes
sir!”, and when I turned and said that something caught my eye but by the time
I could begin to react, a lady on my right called over, “Going to the big game
are you!”, and I replied, “Well I’m really trying to bring the big game to
me!”, at which time we both laughed!
Then I turned back to my left at which time the
elderly gentlemen thought I wanted to speak to him again, but I said, “Excuse
me!”, and I looked past him and locked eyes with the elderly female standing
with him and I gave my gray matter a few milliseconds to dust off a few old
3X5’s and digest what I was seeing, at which time I said, “Are you Carolyn
Harkey?”. She replied, “Why yes, and your Mike Poniatowski!” At which
time I said, “Oh My God” and we spoke for the next 20 minutes holding up the
line! Her gray matter apparently functions at a much higher level than mine!
She’s down here for the winter, and we’re going to
lunch, and if any of you would like to join us, please let me know!
Life is good, and yes this is still a very small
town! After 30 years she recognized me, and I her, but SHE has NOT changed one
bit!....
